Is the third-generation lean tube more expensive or aluminum profile more expensive?

Calculated by purchase length, third-generation lean tubes are generally cheaper than ordinary industrial aluminum profiles. However, if calculated by weight, lean tubes are actually more expensive. Most scenarios involving the construction of workbenches or shelves are purchased by the meter, so choosing third-generation lean tubes often results in greater material cost savings.

Is the third-generation lean tube more expensive or aluminum profile more expensive?

How to calculate a more cost-effective price? 1. When purchasing by meter, lean tubes are more economical: For materials of the same length, the third-generation lean tubes (aluminum alloy rods) are usually hollow thin tubes with lighter weight, while industrial aluminum profiles have larger cross-sections and use more materials, so buying one meter of lean tube costs less than buying one meter of aluminum profile.
2. When weighing by ton, aluminum profiles are more cost-effective: Because the production process of lean tubes is more complex, requiring extrusion and anodizing, which takes longer, the unit price of lean tubes will be higher than that of aluminum profiles if purchased by weight.
3. Actual usage cost: An ordinary 28mm diameter aluminum alloy lean tube weighs approximately one-third of a 4040 aluminum profile of the same length. In situations where load-bearing requirements are not high, assembling a frame with lean tubes can significantly reduce the finished product cost.

How to choose to avoid pitfalls? 1. Choose lean tubes for low load-bearing requirements: If you are only building light shelves, electronic workbenches, or logistics carts, the third-generation lean tubes have sufficient load-bearing capacity (some can reach 120kg/meter) and are more flexible to install.
2. Choose aluminum profiles for high load-bearing requirements: If you need to build a heavy equipment frame or load-bearing structure, industrial aluminum profiles offer better strength and stability. Although they are more expensive, they are more durable.
3. Pay attention to the cost of connecting accessories: In addition to the cost of the tubing itself, the cost of connectors should also be considered. Connectors for lean tubes are usually relatively cheap and quick to install, while the cost of corner braces and bolts for aluminum profiles is not low either. Overall, the lean tube system offers better value for money.
