What is the difference between lean pipe shelves and ordinary shelves?

The core difference between lean pipe racks and ordinary racks is that lean pipe racks are modular, flexible, and reconfigurable systems, while ordinary racks are mostly fixed standardized storage equipment. The two have significant differences in structure, adaptability, and full life cycle cost, especially suitable for your lean production scenario.

What is the difference between lean pipe shelves and ordinary shelves?

1、 Structural and material differences
Lean pipe rack: Previously, 28mm standard lean pipes with outer plastic coating and inner anti-corrosion layer were used. Recently, third-generation aluminum alloy lean pipes have become popular, assembled with specialized metal/plastic connectors without welding process. All components are designed with standardized modular design.
Ordinary shelves: mostly made of cold-rolled steel, stainless steel, or wooden plates welded/bolted together, with a fixed structure and mainly made of single metal or composite plates.
2、 Differences in Flexibility and Customization Capability
Lean pipe rack: The number of layers, height, width, and length can be freely adjusted, and it can adapt to narrow channels and irregular workstations. It can also be equipped with fluent strips, partition boards, casters, and other accessories, and can be transformed into turnover vehicles and workbenches at any time.
Ordinary shelves: The factory size is fixed and only supports small-scale adjustment of floor height. The overall structure cannot be significantly modified, and the adaptability to a single scenario is difficult to match non-standard site requirements.
3、 Difference between reuse rate and renovation cost
Lean pipe rack: The pipes and connectors can be 100% reused, and can be quickly disassembled and reassembled during workshop layout adjustments and warehouse relocation. There is zero material waste, and the long-term use cost is extremely low.
Ordinary shelves: Renovation requires cutting, re welding, or overall scrapping, and materials cannot be reused. Each layout adjustment requires the full purchase of new equipment, resulting in high renovation costs.
4、 Differences in core functions and scene adaptation
Lean pipe rack: It can be directly equipped with fluent strips to form a gravity sliding rack, which relies on the weight of the goods to achieve first in first out. It is suitable for workstation scenarios such as material turnover and storage of electronic components/hardware accessories on the assembly line, and can also be connected to AGV carts and kanban systems.
Ordinary shelves: mainly used for static storage, only supporting the storage of large quantities and small varieties of goods, requiring manual or forklift access, suitable for bulk goods storage in conventional warehouses, and cannot directly connect with the dynamic flow needs of production workstations.
5、 Differences in comprehensive investment and lifespan
Lean pipe shelving: The initial procurement cost is slightly lower, and the unit usage cost after long-term reuse is much lower than that of ordinary shelving. Under normal maintenance, the service life can reach 8-10 years, and the surface is covered with a plastic layer that is rust resistant and acid and alkali resistant. Ordinary shelves: Heavy duty models have a higher initial unit price and extremely low residual value after scrapping. The service life of conventional steel shelves is about 3-5 years, and the surface spray coating is prone to rust and peeling after collision.
